Since September 2008 I have been working in a term position in the Collections unit at Simon Fraser University. This position brings together two different kinds of work: Collections and Electronic Resources.
The Collections part of the position involves liaison with vendors, working with collection profiles to maximize efficiencies in approval plans and notification slips, and assessing usage.
The Electronics Resources work is largely technical. We use a locally-developed serials management interface (CUFTS), including a title list module, a link resolver, and an ERM module currently in beta. I have been able to contribute to planning and testing a variety of ideas, working with the programmers and the Systems Division to make a fully functioning electronic resources management system. Day-to-day work includes troubleshooting for internal and external users, maintaining title lists, activating databases using the ERM, and interpreting license information. |
